A : May I use your cellular phone ? I need to make a phone call.
A : 네 핸드폰좀 잠깐 써도 될까 ? 전화할 데가 있어서.

B : Go ahead and use it. But it has a lot of static.
B : 물론이지. 그런데, 내 전화가 잡음이 많아.

"이 차가 이상한 소리를 내요."는 영어로 "This car is making a strange noise."
또는 "This car is making a strange racket."이라고 할 수 있다.
그런데, 전화기라든가 헤드폰에서 나는 잡음은 "noise"대신에 "static"을 써서
"This phone has a lot of static."라고 한다. 그리고 "잡음 때문에 그 애 말을
 잘 못 알아들었어." 는 "I couldn"t hear him over the static."라고 말 할 수 있다.
참고로 "static"은 잡음 이외에 "정전기"라는 뜻으로도 쓰임.
